I look forward to fall every year. I like summer, and I enjoy the beach and swimming and all the things associated with summer, but I always look forward to some relief from the heat. I am glad it is finally fall.
As it rolls into October, I can finally pull out my light jacket as it cools off to the low 90’s. As the nice cool breeze blows through, it even occasionally feels like it is 89 and I get this chill down my spine… oh, wait. That’s my 11 year old putting a piece of ice down my shirt.
The weather forecast is constantly teasing us with an upcoming “cold” front. They have a strange idea of “cold”. Two weeks ago, the forecast was for a cold front with highs in the low to mid 70’s this week. Last week it was mid to high 70’s. Now it is looking more like low to mid 80’s. By the time it gets here it will actually be more like 88-90. They continue to tease me with false hope. “There’s a second cold front coming right behind this one that will cool it off even more.” Or is that my 11 year old with another piece of ice.
Usually, I don’t start getting excited about fall until I start seeing the massive swarms of birds occupying every inch of the power lines in my neighborhood. I avoid parking anywhere near a power line, but they always seem to find my car. No extra birds in my neighborhood, yet, so no excitement happening here, yet. I know it’s coming, though. Fall comes every year. That welcome relief from the heat and a slight dip in the mosquito population.
Wherever you live, I hope you enjoy the seasons that God has given us. The seasons of the year and the seasons of our lives. Each has a purpose. Some, I haven’t figured out, yet (why oh why does it really need to be 103 degrees with 100% humidity… ever!) but God is in control. Sometimes I don’t understand why things are going on in my life, but I know it is the season that I am walking in. God is in control and I am learning to trust him and follow his word.
I hope you are enjoying your season.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven
