Challenge, Commitment, and Change

Last month I decided to try something different. Instead of posting on the blog, I decided to challenge myself to write a short post every day on Facebook. I went through the book of Proverbs and wrote a post about something that caught my attention for that day. It was a great experience, and I will probably pull some of that content back into the blog down the road.

The challenge was good for me. It caused me to do more than just read through Proverbs. With a commitment to write something every day, I had to actually take time to think about what I was reading. Proverbs has long been one of my favorite books of the Bible. Every time I read it, something new stands out, and it is usually relevant to my day. The challenge also caused me to think more about my writing. I enjoy writing, but some days I just don’t feel like it. Unfortunately, I sometimes allow those days to turn into weeks. That is a reflection of character. Do I allow the day to control me and my emotions, or do I control my day?

Some mornings I just want to lay in bed and pretend the day doesn’t really need to start for another hour or four. But the commitment to write every day caused me to get up and read and pray and think every morning. Getting that post written before I headed off to work every morning was a bit tough and some mornings I set new records on how fast I can get ready to go and get out the door. It was good for me to gain a little discipline and a little more confidence in my abilities as a writer and as a person. It also helped me to realize some things about my writing and about me.

I’m looking forward to this next phase in my writing and sharing more with you. I am setting out on a new challenge and a new commitment to take me to the end of the year. If you have some things you want to accomplish or improve, challenge yourself. Set some goals that are a little bit harder than what you’ve done and commit to doing the work to reaching those goals, no excuses. Join me on my journey of living life every day filled with faith, family, and fun. Let’s see, together, what God is going to do with the rest of this year.
