Our family loves fall. We love raking the leaves into big piles and jumping into the pile. This year, we have a couple of new dogs that will be enjoying that with us. The leaves are just starting to fall and the leaf pile is pretty small, but in the next few weeks, we will have a large pile and plenty of photos to share.
The cool weather is always energizing to me. As I sit and recover from my knee surgery, it is hard to be energized and not be able to do as much as I’d like. This last month has been full of going through files, old video tapes, and lots of other tasks that I can do with my leg up. Not being able to put weight on my leg was great motivation to start going through all the stuff I have been putting off for a few years.
I took some time off from writing. The first week I pretty much slept most of the day. After that, I just wanted some time to read, think, and process life without any deadlines or appointments. That is a rare opportunity for me, and I thought I’d take advantage of it. That time, with the addition of the recent cooler weather has been very nice. But, it’s time to get back to getting things done and moving on.
It is always good to take time away to rest and think. I know a month of that is not really practical for most, but perhaps you can manage a weekend a couple times a year. I recommend one in late spring to evaluate the start of the year and one in the fall, to evaluate the current year and start setting goals for the next. Get away from responsibilities, social media, and get time to read, pray, and think. There is an energy that comes from that unlike anything else.
I’m looking forward to a little bit longer off work, but I’m also looking forward to getting back on my feet and moving on. I hope you have a great fall and get some time to think about your direction and set some goals and renew your vision. I know for many, 2020 has been a tough year. But what changes 2020 is not the calendar ticking over into 2021. What changes 2020 is the decisions you make to live your life everyday, full of faith, family, and fun.
