I love to travel and explore. It is one of my favorite things to do. I love to take pictures and shoot video of the amazing things that God has created and man has dreamed of. Unfortunately, I don’t get to do that as much as I would like. There are so many amazing places and sights to see around the world that I have not gotten to see, yet. It is easy to become obsessed with the big trips and places I haven’t seen and miss the amazing things that are right in front of me.
My daughter has taken up photography as a hobby. She has an amazing eye for some unique pictures. She also has some pretty cool things to think about, too. (You can check out her photography and writings on her blog at JosOfLife.) One of the things she has taught me is to explore and see the beauty around me. She has spent hours in our back yard taking some amazing pictures.
There are many great places around this country and around the world that I would love to see. But in between big trips, don’t forget to enjoy the world you live in. Get a map and a compass. Draw two circles at 50 miles and 100 miles from you house. Begin to explore these areas. Maybe take a part of town you have never been and just explore that. Take a drive in the country and you may be surprised what is right around the corner from you. Take a month and explore all the parks in a different part of town. Look at the state parks that are within an hour of your home.
Put down the video game controller, iPad, or phone and get outside and explore the world around you. You might be surprised what you can find in your own backyard.
