Faith, family, and fun. I’m not exactly sure what this weekend was. Maybe a little of all of it. We attempt to maintain our family schedule where it is pretty manageable. We all support each other in their activities. Some weekends are just downright difficult to manage. Especially coming into the Christmas season.
I love spending time with my family and watching them participate in their chosen endeavor. However, I have not quite figured out how to be in two (or three) places at the same time. I’m still working on that. Add into that some unexpected opportunities to serve friends and some other schedule changing challenges and this weekend was just a bit on the nutty side. Despite all of the challenges, driving, juggling, and plate spinning, it was a great weekend.
Sometimes… o.k. … most of the time… well, maybe all the time, being a parent does not typically involve doing what I want to do. It involves giving of ourselves, sometimes to the point we don’t have much left to give. Sometimes our families need everything we have to offer. Sometimes our friends need everything that is left. I knew this was going to be one of those weekends, so I took off Friday and spent about half of the day by myself. While that may seem selfish, Jesus sets that example for us. He often went away by himself to a quiet place.
I was able to spend a lot of time reading, praying, and something I don’t get to do enough of, thinking. Not about the day to day stuff, but actually thinking. Thinking about what’s going on with my family, my friends, my job, my church, and most importantly, myself. It was a very enjoyable day and I actually got more work done on some projects than I had intended.
We survived the weekend. More than that, we had a very great weekend. We got to serve a wonderful family in between all of our crazy familiness . I also got to do some of the things I love the most; working in the performing arts community and spending time with some of my family there. Seeing old friends and running out the door to the next event where I see more old friends as we work together to accomplish a common goal.
How strange life can be. Before the weekend I was thinking this was going to be a crazy busy, bad weekend that I was certainly not looking forward to. In the end, it was a wonderfully successful weekend of faith, family, and yup… even a little fun.
I hope your weekend and Christmas season is fill with a lot of faith, family, and fun. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming…
